Business Forum on Prestressed Steel Industry and Directorate of Industry: Strengthening Indonesia's Domestic Steel Supply Chain
Bandung, December 5th, 2024 - PT Sumiden Serasi Wire Products (SSWP) took part in the Business Forum on Prestressed Steel Industry organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE).
In this event, Mr. Anton Muhtar Rosyidin as Techinal Director from SSWP delivered a presentation titled "Quality Requirements and Process Capability of Wire Rod for Prestressed Steel Wire." The forum served as a vital platform for key stakeholders in Indonesia's steel industry to discuss challenges and opportunities in utilizing domestically produced wire rod for prestressed concrete (PC) steel products.
SSWP emphasized that wire rod used for prestressed steel must meet stringent standards as specified in SNI, JIS, or ASTM. The essential criteria include:
Compliance with tensile strength, chemical composition, and dimensional specifications.
Free from internal and surface defects.
Appropriate coil weight and diameter for drawing operations.
Excellent processability for cold drawing, heat treatment, and upsetting tests.
These requirements ensure that the finished PC products maintain high reliability and mechanical performance throughout their service life.
SSWP believes that close collaboration between downstream and upstream steel producers is essential to achieving national self-reliance in prestressed steel production. Enhancing the quality and consistency of domestic wire rod will enable Indonesia to reduce dependence on imports while supporting national infrastructure development. SSWP expressed its readiness to collaborate in testing, quality improvement, and technological development with local steelmakers and government agencies.
The Business Forum on Prestressed Steel Industry marked an important step toward uniting stakeholders with a shared goal to build a strong and competitive national prestressed steel ecosystem.
With continuous innovation, partnership, and a commitment to quality, Indonesia's prestressed steel industry is well-positioned to grow sustainably and stand on the strength of its domestic production capabilities.
